Instagram notification publishing
A few Instagram post types aren't supported by Meta's Graph API. For those, Schedulin sends a push notification to your phone at the scheduled time and you complete the upload from the Instagram app.
When notification publishing is used
Notification publishing kicks in for post types Meta hasn't opened to the API, including:
- Some Story formats (polls, sliders, stickers, music)
- Multi-image Stories
- Carousels containing mixed media types that fail validation
For regular feed posts, Reels, and standard carousels, Schedulin publishes via the API directly — no notification needed.
Setup
- Install the Schedulin mobile app and sign in with the same account.
- Enable push notifications when prompted.
- In the channel settings for your Instagram account, toggle Allow notification publishing.
How it works at publish time
At the scheduled time:
- Your phone receives a push notification.
- Tap it. The Schedulin app opens with the media downloaded and the caption pre-copied to your clipboard.
- Tap Open in Instagram. The Instagram app launches into the new-post flow with the media pre-selected.
- Paste the caption, finish any Instagram-specific UI (stickers, music, etc.), and post.
The whole flow usually takes under 30 seconds.
What happens if you miss the notification
The post stays in your scheduled queue. You can tap the notification later (within 24 hours) and complete the publish, or reschedule.
If 24 hours pass with no action, the post moves to the Missed state in the calendar. You can still complete it manually any time.
