Instagram account types
Instagram has three account types: Personal, Creator, and Business. Only Creator and Business accounts can publish through Schedulin, because Meta's Graph API doesn't support scheduled publishing for Personal accounts.
Which one should you use
| Account type | Publishes via Schedulin | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | No | Private/personal use only |
| Creator | Yes | Solo creators, influencers, individual brands |
| Business | Yes | Brands, agencies, anyone needing the full analytics suite |
In practice, both Creator and Business work identically for Schedulin's publishing features. The differences come from Instagram itself:
- Business unlocks the full Meta Business Suite, ads management, and detailed audience demographics.
- Creator keeps a slightly more personal feel (the contact button defaults are different) and exposes some creator-only metrics.
If you're not sure, pick Business.
How to switch your account type
In the Instagram mobile app:
- Open your profile and tap the menu icon (≡).
- Go to Settings and privacy → For professionals → Account type and tools.
- Tap Switch to professional account.
- Pick Creator or Business and follow the prompts.
Switching is reversible — you can always go back to Personal later.
You also need a linked Facebook Page
Meta's API requires every Business or Creator Instagram account to be linked to a Facebook Page. This is a Meta requirement, not a Schedulin one.
If you don't have a Page yet:
- In Facebook, go to Pages → Create new Page.
- Pick any category (this doesn't affect Instagram).
- In Instagram → Settings → Account → Linked accounts → Facebook, link the new Page.
You don't have to post on the Facebook Page — it just needs to exist and be linked.
Common errors
- "This Instagram account is not a Business or Creator account" — switch the account type in the Instagram app, then retry connecting.
- "No linked Facebook Page found" — link a Page in the Instagram app, then retry.
- "You are not an admin of the linked Page" — only Page admins can connect. Get added as an admin in Facebook's Business Settings.
